Engineered hardwood is real wood — a hardwood veneer (usually 2–6 mm) bonded to a multi-ply birch or eucalyptus core. The cross-grain construction resists the seasonal cupping and gapping that plagues solid hardwood in Idaho's wide humidity swings, while still offering one to three sandings over its lifetime.

Preparation and site conditions

Real wood requires the most disciplined preparation of the four materials: flatness tolerances are tighter, subfloor moisture content is recorded, and concrete slabs get moisture mitigation when readings call for it.

Material is delivered and acclimated in the home with HVAC running so its moisture content matches the interior climate. Engineered construction handles Idaho's humidity swings far better than solid wood, but acclimation is still not optional.

Timelines

Plan on several days for a typical main level: acclimation time first, then demolition, preparation, installation, and trim. Glue-down installations add cure time before furniture returns to the room.

We review species hardness, plank width, and finish durability against how the room is actually used, and we lay out samples so you can see how wide-plank runs read in your space before ordering.

Scope changes are handled as written change orders, priced and approved by you before work continues. Our installation carries a 1-year craftsmanship warranty; the material carries its manufacturer warranty.

Floor covering replacement in an existing home generally does not require a permit in Treasure Valley jurisdictions. If your project includes work that does, we tell you at estimate time.
